USB Phishing (USB Baiting): 

USB Baiting is a form of social engineering attack, conducted by planting USB sticks, containing malicious software, at places where the targets can generally find them easily. 


How to prevent USB phishing attacks?  

  1. Use firewalls.
  2. Be cautious of pop-ups windows.
  3. Use anti-viruses’ software’s.


If you suspect that your machine or any machine that you have used to plug in a USB drive was compromised, please take the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the computer from the network.
  2. Disable the wireless connectivity.

How to Create USB Phishing Campaign:

USB phishing campaign's main goal is to open phishing files to phishing targets and monitor how do targets react to the phishing. You can create campaign with the following.


First step to create campaign is log in to your account in PhishGuard, then do the following:

  1. Choose Campaigns in the side navigation bar.
  2. Click USB Campaigns.
  3. Then click New USB Campaign, you can create several campaigns.

  4. After that you can choose name of the campaign, and enter how many USB's will be used to this campaign

  5. When you click Lunch Campaign It will be scheduled.


This page will indicate whether your campaign is currently active or archived, the date it was created, its status, and the number of times it has been opened.





How to start the USB campaign


As an administrator of PhishGuard, you need to copy 2 files in each of the USB sticks that you have before you use it


  1. Go to USB Campaigns page from Campaigns menu.
  2. Click View Results for the campaign the you created.

  3. Click on Download EXE button.

  4. In the Details section, you should be able to download each file.txt separately as per the number of USBs specified when you created the campaign.

  5. After that, copy both .exe & each file.txt file in a USB stick.Tip! You can rename the ".exe" file based on your test scenario

  6. Open .exe file to test it and you can track how opened it.




Tracking Campaign


You can track the campaign you created to see who open it and when in a timeline.


The above figure displays both the status and timeline of the campaign. By selecting "Display By Status" option, you can filter the results by Created, USB File Opened, or Error status.
